Cam Newton about false perceptions coming out of college and how he’s ready to take over via ESPN It’s a great read on Cam and I suggest all fans of football go and read it. Cam touches on a lot of subjects but it seems like his main focus in the NFL, outside of the obvious which is winning, is to change the perception of the black quarterback. He feels as if many analysts and critics were harsh on him not just because he was a black quarterback, but because of the many failures of the black quarterbacks that came before him. Newton via ESPN:
And what a show it’s been so far. |
“As far as I’m concerned, he’ll be the last quarterback we ever draft high in my lifetime. He is a very unusual young man, and I say that in a highly complimentary way. He does not complain. Ever. He’s never in the trainers room. You watch him get hit out there and you think, ‘He got to be hurting,’ and then you see he’s never with the trainers. The way he has adapted to our team and to the NFL has been tremendous. We couldn’t be happier.”

The player I am most interested in watching week two is Cam Newton. He had a pretty fantastic debut week one but it was against an Arizona defense that I know nothing about. The only thing I know about Arizona is that all the defensive names that I am familiar with from the last few years have moved on to big paydays on other teams.
This week Cam goes against Dom Capers Green Bay defense. The Pack have had off for over a week and Capers has had plenty of time to game plan for Newton. How Cam Newton fares this weekend will go a long way towards solidifying my view of him.
Cam Newton in his NFL debut:
24-37, 422 yds
2 TDs, 1 INT
8 Rush, 18 yds, 1 TD
That would be more yards than Brees, Rivers, Rodgers, Ryan or whoever else you want to name. Wowzas!!!

“Sure I’ll throw you the football, kid…in exchange for a donation to my father’s church. Cash only. Leave the envelope behind the monkey bars.”
Remember how well it worked out the last time Carolina drafted a Heisman-winning quarterback? Get excited, Panther fans! And get even more excited next month, when Cam Newton starts private workouts with Gino Torretta.
With the 1st overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers have selected QB Cameron Jerrell Newton to lead their team into the future.
