At the end of the 1st round, the Green Bay Packers have finished things by taking OT Derek Sherrod 32nd in the draft. 

Despite being the Champs, it’s not hard to find spots where there is a need. Last year, the Pack needed to step up their run game and protect QB Aaron Rodgers a bit more. Cue Sherrod, who can stabilize the line and bring some depth to the injury plagued championship team.

And with the 31st pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select CAM HEYWARD.

That would be the fifth defensive tackle and the third Cam in the first round of the draft. At 6’5” and 294 lbs Dick LeBeau is foaming at the mouth.

In the most predictable move of the draft, the New York Jets used their 30th pick to grab a defensive player. DT Muhammad Wilkerson will wear the Green & White and provide yet another reason for opposing QBs to dread any match against Rex Ryan and his desperadoes.

And with the 29th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Chicago Bears select GABE CARIMI.

Remember how long Cutler holds the ball? Remember how many Chicago QBs got concussed? Offensive line picks can only help.

At 28th overall, the New Orleans Saints trade the New England Patriots and take RB Mark Ingram. As Jon Gruden said, “the rich get richer”. Technically speaking, the Saints now boast two Heisman Trophy backs (depending on whether you still count Reggie Bush as a Heisman winner). Its as though they’ve got some fantasy football drafting advice, by stockpiling a full stable of running backs.

After an eternity… with the 27th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Baltimore Ravens select Jimmy Smith.

There’s all kinds of worry with Jimmy Smith. He’s had his share of off the field issues. Obviously, Baltimore feels that the strong personalities in the locker room (Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Ed Reed) will keep him in check.

From this day on can Jimmy Smith’s nickname please be the Hoochie Cooche Man?

In an odd happenstance, where the Baltimore Ravens passed, the Kansas City Chiefs have chosen 6’4” WR Jonathan Baldwin 26th in the draft.

Excellent pick for KC, as this will only make their offense that much more fierce. The Dwayne Bowe/Jamaal Charles combo was tough enough, but not quite enough to make them that proper post season team. With a tall, young receiver, in Baldwin, the Chiefs can really spread their offense to no end.

Seattle Seahawks are thinking about protection by taking offensive lineman James Carpenter 25th overall. They tried desperately to trade down this pick, but to no avail. The Seahawks made it two weeks into the playoffs on a whim, so they’re not the biggest joke out there. Obviously they could improve at almost any spot, but this makes a bit of sense with the addition of Tom “Cable Guy” as their line coach. Hasselbeck can breathe a bit easier now…just a little bit.

And with the 24th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the New Orleans Saints select CAMERON JORDAN.

The Saints still haven’t gotten over the fact that Matt Hasselbeck passed all over them in the playoffs. Or maybe it was that final run by Marshawn Lynch.

The always sunny in Philadelphia Eagles have gone with Offensive Guard Danny Watkins 23rd overall. No doubt to protect their prize rejuvenated QB Mike Vick. This is a key move as they provide some youth on the line thus allowing their offense to have more time to mind f*@k their opponents. At least someone out there is looking to score some points!

And with the 22nd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Indianapolis Colts select Anthony Castonzo.

21st pick overall NT Phil Taylor goes to the Cleveland Browns after they traded up with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Not the most exciting of picks, but with Colt McCoy doing well taking the snaps, and Peyton Hillis running amok, might as well take a large defensive lineman to help against the run.

If you haven’t noticed, other than that QB run earlier, this year’s teams seem to be focused on Defense, Defense, and more Defense.
